FIRST EDITION. INSCRIBED BY GROSZ, "To my friend Eohn and Mint." Der Spiesser-Spiegel comprises 60 full-page line cuts after Grosz's original drawings satirizing post-war German high society. Many were created following Grosz's return from the Soviet Union in late 1923. According to Grosz's son Martin, shortly after this book was published Grosz was visited by Nazi officers, with Grosz escaping arrest only by pretending to be a handyman. Works by Grosz were among those exhibited at the infamous Degenerate Art exhibition held in Berlin from 19 July to 30 November 1937. Lang 44. Bülow 67. Tillmann 423.
